Acadia national park is a tourist attraction located in Maine's Mount Desert Island, Maine, US. The landscape consist of forests, rocky beaches, and granite glacier peaks such as Cadillac, the highest point on the East Coast of the United States. The wildlife that you can find in there are deer, bears, whales, seabirds and turtles. Bar Harbour town is a popular gateway.

Acadia national park is open in all season. Visiting here in the summer season is a good idea because you can do many things. One of the best views that you can get in the summer season is beautiful golden sunset. The temperatures in the summer range from 45-95 F (7-30C).

How to get there?

By car:

  • Mount Desert Island: From Boston take I-95 heading north to Augusta, then take Route 3 heading east to Ellsworth. After arriving at Ellsworth, take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island. Alternative routes, can use I-95 heading north to Bangor, and after that take Route 1A heading east to Ellsworth. After arriving at Ellsworth, take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island.
  • Schoodic Peninsula: Take I-95 heading north to Bangor, then take Route 1A heading east to Ellsworth.  After arriving at Ellsworth, go north on U.S. Route 1  to Highway 186. Turn right on Highway 186, drive about 6.5 miles and turn left, continue about 0.5 miles and turn right on Schoodic Loop Road.

    By Plane:

    You can choose direct flights from Boston Logan Airport to Hancock County Airport. The airport is located 17 km from Acadia National Park. Alternatively, you can choose flights to Bangor International Airport. A trip from Bangor to the national park is around one hour. Car rental is available at Hancock county airport and Bangor international airport.
      In the summer exploring coastal and forest area is a great activity to do.  Exploring coastal area, you can see a combination beautiful landscape between sea and rock cliff and doing water sport activity.

      Otter cliff


      One of many interesting places in Acadia national park that you should visit is otter cliff.  Otter cliff is a giant cliff made of giant granite with a height of 110 feet. The view from this place is the most amazing view on the East Coast. Therefore, Otter cliff is a very popular stop along Park Loop Road. This place is very interesting to visit in the summer. You can see rock climbers who dare to climb over the granite and pods of whales that spray from the beach.

      Bass Harbor Head Light


      Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is on the edge of a cliff at Acadia National Park. The lighthouse is located in the village of Bass Harbor in Tremont, Maine. This lighthouse has a height of 56 feet. This lighthouse was built from brick in 1858. There is a very nice area to see the views of the harbor and islands in the distance. This location can be reached by using the path on the right side of the lighthouse

      Exploring the forest is worth to do in Acadia national Park, sometimes in the right moment you can see red twilight in the forest. Never worry to be lost in the forest because the trail well recognized. The trail is composed from rocky trail to footpaths at the edge. There are many route that you can explore in Acadia National Park forest : Penobscot Mountain Trail, Bald Peak and Parkman Mountain (Sunset option), Beech Mountain South Ridge Loop (Sunset option), Canada Cliffs Loop, Great Meadow Loop, etc. One of many interesting animal in here that you can see is turtle. The most common turtle you can see here is snapping turtle.
