Universal Studios Florida is an amusement park and production studio located in Orlando, Florida, United States. Universal studios Florida took the concept of a Hollywood tour scene and developed it into a bigger and more independent attraction. For example, in Hollywood, tram tours of the studio are close to the coastline and "attacked" by Jaws before they travel to the next part of the tour. In Florida, guests enter the "Jaws" attraction and will board a ship that is touring the fictional Amity Harbor, where they meet sharks, then exit back to the park at the end of the attraction. This theme park initially had the appeal of a Studio Tour that visited production facilities, but the tour was stopped.

Many of Universal Studios attractions were developed by the actual creators of the original films, and featured original stars as part of the experience. Steven Spielberg helped create E.T. Adventure and is a creative consultant for Back to the Future: The Ride, Twister, Ride it Out, American Tail Theater, Jaws, Men in Black: Alien Attack and Transformers: The Ride.
In many rides today, the original stars played back according to their film roles including: Rip Torn and Will Smith from Men in Black for Men in Black: Alien Attack, Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Kelsey Grammer repeated the roles of The Simpsons for The Simpsons Ride, Brendan Fraser and Arnold Vosloo from The Mummy for Revenge of the Mummy, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow from Shrek for Shrek 4-D, Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher from Despicable Me for Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker repeat their roles as Optimus Prime and Megatron for Transformers: The Ride 3D, and Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Ludacris, and Jordana Brewster repeat their roles from the Fast & Furious franchise to Fast & Furious: Supercharged, and others.
For years, Universal Studios Florida did not limit itself to attractions based on its own extensive film library. This sometimes licenses popular characters from other rival studios, many of whom do not operate their own amusement parks, as attractions, past and present. Some examples include:
  • Animal Planet (Discovery Communications)
  • Barney & Friends (HIT Entertainment)
  • Ghostbusters and Men in Black (Sony's Columbia Pictures)
  • Hanna-Barbera properties, Harry Potter films and Beetlejuice (Warner Bros.)
  • Nickelodeon, and Transformers film series (Viacom and Paramount Pictures)
  • Star Trek and I Love Lucy (CBS)
  • The Simpsons (20th Century Fox)
  • Terminator (The Halcyon Company)
